The Priory Ethos and Priory PRIDE Values
Priory Pride – Our Ethos and Values
Peace – Respect – Independence – Determination – Equality
Our five core PRIDE values underpin all that we do; these values, alongside other common values, are at the heart of all aspects of our school. Our Priory curriculum has the golden thread of our PRIDE values running through it; we LEARN with PRIDE.

Our Ethos – At Priory we:
Work together
- The school community work together to ensure all children are safe.
- There is a strong sense of community – all members of the community working together for the good of the children.
- Parents are confident that the school is ensuring that their child progresses well but also works hard to help their child to develop into a healthy, happy, caring and respectful member of society. They feel comfortable being part of school life and voicing their opinions and feelings.
We provide support and provision when needed.
- Effective provision, support and nurture is given to pupils and their families when they need it.
We work to ensure ALL are able to achieve.
- We strive to ensure levels of attainment sit above the national average and all children make at least good progress from their starting points.
- Children are taught how to be resilient and staff seek out opportunities to raise children’s self – esteem and confidence in their abilities.
We give pupils’ a ‘voice’
- Children take an active part in school life – they are given a ‘voice.’
We promote health and happiness
- Children are encouraged to make healthy choices and opportunities are given for activity during the school day. Emphasis is placed on the importance of developing good health and mental well-being for life.
We LEARN with PRIDE
- The curriculum engages and excites and offers an appropriate level of challenge. It encourages children to be independent and curious learners, developing lifelong knowledge and skills.
- There are enrichment opportunities and experiences to enhance the curriculum and enthuse the children.
- Our Priory PRIDE values are the golden thread that underpins our curriculum.
Learning with PRIDE is at the centre of everything we do at Priory Junior School. Our PRIDE values permeate every aspect of our school. Pupils are expected to learn, work and live with PRIDE and are taught explicitly how to do so to support their journey through school. Our guiding principles provide a support network for children learn, work and live in a community that promotes high-expectations, embraces difference, supports each other and understands the importance of giving everyone a voice.

“Impossible is a word that people use to describe something that they can’t do… but their impossible isn’t my impossible.
There are no winners, until someone has won it.
You won’t know what I’m capable of until I’ve done it.”
George the Poet.
Model of excellence
At Priory Junior School, our curriculum is planned in accordance with our model of excellence. The Priory Junior School Model of Excellence supports pupils making excellent progress and provides a clear structure for how learning is organised at Priory Junior School.

PRovIDE:
Learning, working and living with PRIDE is central to all learning at Priory Junior School. Children are expected to learn, work and live the Priory Way as set out in the Expectations for Pupils. We provide a framework within which pupils can thrive and explicitly teach them how to live out The Priory Way in all they do. This framework allows children see what is possible and turn impossible into I’m Possible.
We Provide:
- A knowledge rich curriculum based on the National Curriculum
- A clear progression of learning within each subject that allows children to build on prior knowledge and make progress
- A supportive behaviour system that teaches children strategies to achieve their best regulatory state for learning
- A clear set of expectations (The Priory Way) which provides the best environment for learning
Enhance:
Teaching and learning is enhanced by providing a blend of declarative, procedural and experiential knowledge. Where possible, we enhance learning by linking topic areas together to create holistic learning experiences for all children.
Enrich:
Teaching and learning is enriched by the opportunities for children to perform, compete and lead in addition to the taught curriculum. We provide:
- Interventions taught by experts e.g. musicians and sports coaching.
- Residentials
- School Trips
