Personal Development
Personal development at Priory Junior School is purposeful, inclusive and closely aligned to our school values of Peace, Respect, Independence, Determination and Equality. Our provision is carefully planned to ensure pupils develop the character, confidence and understanding they need to succeed in education and in later life.
The RSHE curriculum is well sequenced and age-appropriate, enabling pupils to develop a secure understanding of healthy relationships, emotional wellbeing and personal safety. Pupils learn to show respect for themselves and others, value equality, and understand how to manage friendships and emotions in a positive way. High-quality discussion and pupil voice are central, ensuring pupils feel safe, listened to and supported.
Our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) approach makes a strong contribution to pupils’ physical and mental wellbeing. Playtimes are inclusive and purposeful, promoting peaceful play, cooperation and positive relationships. Pupils develop independence and determination as they take responsibility, solve problems collaboratively and demonstrate leadership during outdoor learning experiences. As a result, pupils return to lessons settled, engaged and ready to learn.
Across the wider curriculum and enrichment opportunities, pupils are supported to develop resilience, self-belief and an understanding of life in modern Britain. Personal development provision is inclusive and accessible to all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged pupils, ensuring equality of opportunity.
As a result of this strong and coherent approach, pupils demonstrate positive attitudes, respectful behaviour and growing independence. They leave Priory Junior School well-prepared for the next stage of their education and equipped with the skills, values and understanding needed for their future lives.
